Coaches

I have worked tirelessly around the world the last four years within this CrossFit community.  I am honored to be a part of such a grand scheme of fitness and grow CrossFits community.  Working toward developing a team of like minded folks with varied backgrounds and expertise within gymnastics, fitness, and body movement in order to better serve trainers, coaches, and CrossFit faithful.  My goals are evolving to move like minded individuals toward basic strength needs and beyond to that of advanced body awareness and movement.  We want to teach you to coach, spot, study, and recognize all needs for the community we serve.

I believe their is no higher calling than to offer service - and we look forward to serving you.  Please let us know how we can all be of service.

Sincerely,

tucker

Katrina Burton

Canadian Champion and all time great in the Canadian Gymnastic and CrossFit realm.  I am honored to have had her be part of our team for now 2 plus years.  She is a solid athlete but more importantly an solid technical coach.

Dusty Hyland

Dusty is the co-owner and head gymnastics coach of DogTown CrossFit in Culver City, California. By the age of seven, he had started an active athletic regimen that has continued throughout his life. At thirteen, Dusty gave up a host of other sports to focus on Artistic Gymnastics. He was a very successful gymnast, and after his father’s job promotion and relocation to Northern California, he began to train at Stanford University under two-time world champion Tong Fei.

By sixteen, Dusty competed at the Junior Olympic National Championships and trained with the U.S. Olympic Team. In college, he competed in NCAA Division I men’s gymnastics and scored a NCAA record perfect 10 on the still rings. After one more year of competition, he retired due to injury. He then traveled the world starring in a Cirque du Soleil-type live show before settling in Los Angeles and doing some stunt work in films.

Dusty trains anyone and everyone, from your everyday joe to elite CrossFitters, athletes, and teams. In the last year he has worked with Val Voboril, Lindsey Valenzuela, Ruth Anderson Horrell, Kenneth Leverich, Tommy Hackenbruck and the UTE CrossFit Team.

Natalie Padilla

Fitness and Gymnastics have been a huge part of Natalie's life.  She started gymnastics at the age of 4 and continued through the levels earning a scholarship to the University of Iowa. After two years at the U of I, Natalie transferred to UCLA, one of the top gymnastics and academic schools in the nation. They were the 2007 Pac-10 Champions and made it to the “Super Six” team finals every year at the NCAA National Championship. After graduating with a degree in Psychology, focusing on Health Psychology, Natalie fell into stunt work where she started working on the gymnastics TV show “Make It or Break It” doubling one of the main actresses. She now trains in all stunt areas such as driving, martial arts, gymnastics and continues to work on numerous TV shows. She currently coaches CrossFit Gymnastics classes at DogTown CrossFit in Culver City, CA.  Natalie hopes to inspire others to love fitness and gymnastics as much as she does.

Sean Lind

After finishing his post secondary education at the age of 23, his passion and talent took him in a very different direction. Sean began his training with very minimal gymnastics experience, to dedicating every moment of his time to researching and learning proper form and technique. His investment in the work organically grew as he completed the NCCP Gymnastics level 1 & 2 and becoming a competitive gymnastics coach. A couple of years later, Sean was accepted into one of the top circus schools in Quebec. Here Sean specializes in two disciplines: Straps (which are like rings) and Hand to Hand (Lifting and throwing a person into handstand). Honoured to be a part of the Crossfit Gymnastics team, Sean is excited to share the knowledge he has gained to help others pursue their gymnastic goals.

Julie Barnes Maurer

Julie Barnes Maurer started her gymnastics career after watching Mary Lou Retton win gold at the 1984 summer Olympics.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), she had to attend her first lessons with a broken arm due to monkey bar shenanigans on the playground.  The good news is this laid a foundation and appreciation for strength, conditioning and flexibility for the rest of her athletic and coaching career.  In 1992 immediately after high school graduation she took her first coaching position as a part time college job.  Unable to get the gymnastics out of her blood she would spend the majority of the next 20 years coaching all levels of gymnastics, from toddlers to state champions both men and women.  This depth of experience allows Julie to understand the basics of gymnastics movement and have a vision for where strength and skill can lead.  Enter CrossFit.  In January 2002 Julie walked into her first On Ramp class at Oakland County CrossFit and was hooked.  It wasn’t long before friends and owners Andrea and Matt encouraged her to bring her gymnastics knowledge to the box setting her on the path to CrossFit Gymnastics with Jeff Tucker and allowing her to bring her enthusiasm and knowledge to a new and hungry audience.  Julie is thrilled and honored to be a part of the CrossFit community and appreciates her good fortune of being able to spread her love of gymnastics!
